    CPU And RAMs
    « on: April 10, 2008, 01:43:05 PM »
Greetings, first of all, am not sure if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any similar thread.

Anyways, for two years I've had 2x1gb 533 DDR2 RAMs, now, I want to upgrade to 4gb DDR2 RAMs, but the thing is, I am not sure which RAMs to get, the one of 667MHz or the 800MHz. Because of my CPU Quad Core 2.4 GHz Q6600 1066, so it preferable to add 667MHz of RAMs or 800MHz? Also, I have Intel Motherboard 975xbx2.

    Thanks...

the faster the RAM, the better. so 800 MHz is, of course, better then 667MHz, assuming your motherboard supports DDR2 800.

Thanks a lot homer, I appreciate your help.

The reason I had to ask, is because I've been told, 667MHz of RAMs work better with 1066 of CPUs.

        Thanks again!

Note that unless you take out the 533's, the new ram may not perform up to specs. RAM only goes as fast as the lowest common denominator. If you want to upgrade to 4gb 800MHz, you'll need to get all new ram.
