    CDs playback too fast
    « on: April 12, 2008, 07:10:29 PM »
I have an emachine W3107, 512mb ram, 1.8ghz.  Suddenly every CD I put in the drive (it's a DVD, CD R+RW) plays too fast. Then I discovered that every audio file  on the computer plays too fast (all music--period).
I do not know how this happened, and otherwise it works great, but someone told me I had to reset something and I am not at all sure where to begin to find it.  I tried going through Windows Media Player to adjust the playback speed of some music videos I burned onto CD from the Internet, and as it turns out, even the music I have stored on my hard drive is suddenly playing fast.
This is makin' me nuts...can anyone tell me how to fix this?  Thank you!

Did you try another player, like Winamp?

    Welcome to the CH forums.

What happens when you adjust the playback speed in WMP?  The attached image shows what to click on (lower LH corner circled in red).

Thanks Broni...it doesn't seem to matter which player I use.  It's seeming like I somehow changed the play back speed somewhere in my system, but I don't know how.  Unfortunately, I also have a busy-fingered six year old who is just figuring out that if you click around enough with the mouse you can pull up all sorts of cool stuff on the monitor (ack).

Dusty: It slows it in a manner that makes the vocalists sound like drunk chipmunks instead of just chipmunks (when I slow it in WMP)

Did you try to update your sound driver?
      Any errors in Device Manager?

      I also found this:
      1. In Control Panel, open Sounds and Audio Devices.

      2. On the Volume tab, in the Speaker settings area, click the Advanced button.

      3. In the Advanced Audio Properties dialog box, click the Performance tab, and then adjust the Hardware acceleration slider control to adjust the clock timing for your sound card.

Keep in mind that, if your sound card supports multichannel (5.1) audio playback, turning off hardware acceleration (by moving the slider to None) will cause the sound card to play all multichannel audio in stereo (two speaker) sound.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to go check this all out.  If later on you only see part of a post, it's my keyboard frying because of the tears falling on it.
(Anyone ever listen to Korn sung by Alvin and the Chipmunks? *shudder*)
