XP Boot sequence problems
« on: January 30, 2005, 07:35:01 AM »
Recently upgraded MoBo/CPU/PSU/Graphics card everythings works OK but with the following exception.  During boot sequence, just before looking for boot up from HDD the system holds on the following message:-
"Mac address invalid in both CMOS and DMI"
"Press F1 to continue"
On pressing F1 the PC boots as normal and runs OK.  I've itentified the problem to the Hitachi GD 7500 DVD ROM & TEAC CD W45E, set as master/secondary on IDE 2.  Not been able to find any new firmware for these units so stuck with originals.  By unplugging these items boot sequence runs as normal, no hangs.
MoBo is Asrock K7VT4A+ with the latest BIOS.

Any suggestion would be gratfully recieved.

An aspiring newbie.

A search of Google has the following:

Please try to install your CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, or DVD-RW to primary IDE (IDE1, blue connector) and install your hard drive to secondary IDE channel. If you still encounter problem, please download the tool to rewrite the MAC address from:http://www.asrock.com/support/Download/MAC_tool_dl.htm

BTW, Asrock website is dead.
