« on: January 30, 2005, 07:02:18 PM »
Hello, I am looking for info. on  why the C drive is always the default drive. And how to change it or change which drive is the default drive. I have 2 hd's in a RAID 0 config and they are partitioned into 3 drives.
[glb]Any [/glb]info. on the default drive topic is appreciated.

Hello how are you? Normally, in the world drive C is considard as deafult drive. Actually it is preconfigured in the BIOS to first check the C: drive for Operating System after POST. If it finds any OS then it transfer the conrole to the OS. On the other hand, if it doen't find aany OS on C: then it will check other drives for OS.

You cannot change this option from BIOS(may be some BIOS also have this option). BIOS will always check C: drive.
When you are installing the operating sysem e.g windows, it ask you to select drive where you want to install the OS or windows. Defaul is C: but you can also chose different drive right there.

    Is it enough info.... ;D

Thank you, that is what I thought might be the case. I am planning on adding another hard drive and then I will re-install windows and set it all up as I want it. I hope!! :)

1st IBM Personal Compuer (PC) had 1 floppy drive (A).
    Later ones had 2 floppy drives (A & B).
With invention of hard disk drive, next in line was C.
When more drives and/or partitions were added, D thru Z.
"B" has just about disappeared, "A" soon to follow.
