    Selective Disc Drive
    « on: April 19, 2008, 10:55:56 AM »
About a month ago my disc drive started acting funny. I could import songs onto my iTunes through it, but if I tried to just play a cd, the cd would have a one second pause for every couple of seconds of play. Now when I try to play a cd/dvd, sometimes it won't play at all and sometimes it plays just fine (I watched a dvd yesterday for two hours straight with no problem).

My drive seems to have gotten picky as to when it will work and when it won't. I'm currently trying to install a game and the drive intermittently whirs and stops whirring on the first disc, then finally poops out at different spots on the second disc saying that there is no disc in the drive. This sudden failure to recognize a disc has happened with music discs too--it just stops playing in the middle of a track. It's a little hard to describe this problem so searching here and on google has yielded no results. Thanks for any help.

    System:
HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop , Windows XP home, Service Pack 2, 1000 MHz, 1 GB RAM, and the dvd/cd-rom drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N.

I'd send for the priest myself.

There is always hope, my son. If the drive has been a good one, it is going to disk drive heaven. Also, if you make a small (these days) donation, it can be reincarnated into a new one.
