Going from Millenium edition to XP
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:38:35 PM »
I have two Dells.  One I got in 2000 (millennium edition) and one I got last year (XP).  Can I use the XP CD  from last year's purchase to upgrade the computer I bought in 2000?  The information person from Dell says that I need to buy a new XP CD.  But the diskette says that it is for use on "a dell computer."  Any ideas?

That's exactly it. One computer, one installation. If you have to change your HDD, you can do the re-installation on that computer but no other one. If you have to change your mobo, you're in for a fight with Microsoft. Of course, if you're not going on-line with the other computer it won't matter much.
