add sata dvd drive to dell 8400 with sata hd
« on: April 23, 2008, 12:35:24 PM »
Hi, I bought a phillips sata dvd drive and have been monkeying around trying to install it on dell 8400 P4 3.00ghz 2.5gig ram.  XP OS.  the hard drive is Sata and a
power cable is connnected to it and has one other connector available. The MB has 4 Sata data ports with 0 being used by the hard drive.  What I did was removed my old cd-rw drive and replaced it with the dvd drive and hooked the power cable (the one that shares the hard drive) and bought a sata data cable and plugged one end into the drive and one into the motherboard.  I tried 2 different positions on the motherboard.  I got a message on pre boot that said drive 5 not recognized.  Sata is enabled in the bios.  Any thoughts on this??
Thanks for your time, lbs

Install the SATA drivers for the drive.
Some boards require this for each SATA port.
