    Unknown Entry in Boot.ini (WinXP)
    « on: April 25, 2008, 02:57:48 AM »
    In my system Windows XP Pro. installed. There is no problem and works fine. Recently I saw the boot.ini file through msconfig and also through the editor.

    That file contains the following entries,

    [boot loader]
    timeout=0
    default=signature(4b464b45)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    signature(4b464b45)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    But in my friends and office system shows the boot.ini like

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    I don't understand what is signature(4b464b45)? What that use? Why my boot.ini differ from others. But no problem in booting.

    The person who knows about it please reply me.
