    Just recently, my ftp stopped connecting to my server, giving me an error message that said "An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine." I thought it was just my ftp, so I went to a whole bunch of places looking for a fix. Nothing helped.

    Then I realized that it wasn't just my ftp, but my entire computer cannot access my website!! It is like it has become invisible to me. I can no longer see images I've hotlinked from my site, and I can't access it from the internet, either. I haven't changed or installed any new programs lately, and as the administrator of my computer, there are no blocks or anything that would limit my internet capabilities.

    I tried pinging it from the command prompt, and that doesn't work either. I'm hosted by a friend, so I thought that maybe the server was down. But she can log onto me and everyone else can go to the site just fine. It's only me thats being blocked from it.

    I really can't figure out what to do!!!! :X I do have antivirus software, and upon finding threats I've utilized it, but I just can't make my website show to me. It is definitely my computer, and not my internet.

    I originally posted in Viruses and Spyware, because I thought that was the problem, but it has been decided that it isn't.

    I do not have or use IE. And for Firefox, I have cleared the cache already.

    The only website that doesn't work for me is mine. I can otherwise access the internet just fine. The website is fuuki-inc.net, which is under construction. It shows just fine for everybody else, but for me  it's like it doesn't exist.

    I tried resetting the hosts file with HostXpert, also, but that didn't help.

    Hmm, since IE (which comes with all Windows systems) is tightly integrated with Windows and can't be removed without damaging Windows, how did you go about removing it?

      I'm not sure if it is completely removed or not, but I replaced it with Firefox the day I got my computer, which was over a year ago. So it's not being there isn't what caused my problem, which happened recently.  Do you have any advice?

            I get "request has timed out"

            I did change some things to make my connection time 90 seconds, and like I said, everyone else can get to the site just fine D: D:

            Is router involved?
            If so, did you try to connect your computer straight to the modem? Did you reset modem?
            Did you try Safe Mode with Networking?

              I used to use a router, but I moved 3 months ago to another state and am using different internet altogether. This time, I do plug directly into the modem. It worked fine for the 3 months, and then abruptly I couldn't see/access any part of my site.

              I put my computer in Safe Mode and followed these instructions (from http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml) :

              If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

                  * If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
                  * Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
                  * Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
                  * Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
                  * Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
                  * When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

              To use the System Configuration Utility method

                  * Close all open programs.
                  * Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
                  * The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
                  * The computer restarts in Safe mode.
                  * Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
                    When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab,  uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer


              But other than that, I'm not really sure what to do in Safe Mode. :/

              After restart keep tapping F8 key until this menu appears:

              Select Safe Mode with Networking, and try to connect to your site.

                Go Start>Run, type in:
                cmd
                Click OK.

                In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
                ipconfig /flushdns
                ipconfig /registerdns
                ipconfig /release
                ipconfig /renew


                Restart computer.

                Do you really know what that "resetting" did?  How about just viewing your hosts file in Notepad and see what's actually in it?

                I think you really need to verify that the hosts file is not the culprit here, and I'm not convinced you've done that.
