    80pin and 40 pin /80wire means the same?

    I have a problem with my computer...the engineer asked me to buy an internal hard drive, it should be IDE and 80 pin.
    and i tried to find on the internet but all of them are 40 pin and some are 40 pin /80wire.........so i wanted to know if 80pin and 40 pin/80wire means the same.

    Is this disk SCSI or IDE?

      IDE connectors have 40 pins. Original (40 wire) IDE cables had 40 signal wires. Modern high speed (40 pin/80 wire) IDE cables have an extra screening wire between each adjacent pair of signal wires. These 40 extra wires are not connected to any of the pins.

      Your engineer sounds confused, as there are no 80 pin IDE drives, only 80 wire IDE cables. However, some SCSI drives have 80 pin SCA connectors.

        i think he wanted to say 40 pin 80wire (connector)
