IE hijacker and unsolicited web sites open
    « on: May 02, 2008, 07:59:05 PM »
Well, I have had good luck solving my problems by reading others but this one has me stumped.

    I'm using IE 6
When I have a window open other windows open without a clik.

I have a file in system 32 that I can't delete or edit or replace... jkkhyoph.dll
I think it's part of the problem.
I already tried SDfix in safe mode.

Here is a copy of HJThis log......

        * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
        * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
        * A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.

You have to re-run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and this time, please pay close attention to my instructions:
      Quote
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

When done, run HJT again, and post fresh log.

*** You need to update your Java:
          http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6
Uninstall all previous versions of Java through Add\Remove.

          1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

          2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

          3. Put a checkmark next to the following HijackThis entries (some entries will be checkmarked to disable unnecessary startups; in those cases (marked with *), no actual program will be removed):

          - O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
          - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [1095edf8] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rxotrnif.dll",b
          - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BM13a6de64] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rowkakqn.dll",s
          - *O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe
          - O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
          - O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
          - O21 - SSODL: WebProxy - {66186F05-BBBB-4a39-864F-72D84615C679} - sockins32.dll (file missing)

          4. Click on Fix checked button.

          5. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 key, when your computer starts, until menu appears)

          6. Open Windows Explorer. Go Tools>Folder Options>View tab, put a checkmark next to Show hidden files, and folders.

          7. Delete following files/folders (if present):

          - rxotrnif.dll, rowkakqn.dll files from C:\WINDOWS\system32

          8. Restart in Normal Mode.

          9. Post new HijackThis log.

I see absolutely nothing malicious in HJT...hmmmm
Do those warning messages have any headers? Source?

Download SDFix (http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/removaltools/sdfix.exe) and save it to your Desktop.

                  * Run the SDFix.exe by double clicking on it.
                  * Allow it to install into the default location which is c:\SDFix
                  * Now please reboot your computer into Safe Mode:
                 # After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
                 # Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
                 # Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
                  * When you have booted into safe mode, open the C:\SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
                  * Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
                  * It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry entries found and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
                  * Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
                  * When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
                  * Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
                  * Attach the Report.txt file to your next message.

Your patience is outstanding, thanks. Right now there is another window open and it was making it impossible to type this reply till I closed it.

I have been using a clean laptop to download your recommended programs as the infected computer will often stop downloading or IE will show some warning but I don't think it's IE showing the warning....

One of the warnings is as follows: NOTICE: If your computer has been running slower than normal, it may be infected with viruses, adware or spyware. Malwarealarm will perform a quick and completely free scan of your system for malicious programs. Download malwarealarm for free now!

When I close that the following sites open.....

Download HostsXpert (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Hoster_d4626.html) and then follow the below steps.

                    * Unzip HostsXpert.zip
                    * It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
                    * Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
                    * click the Make Writeable? button.
                    * click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
                    * Click the X to exit the program
