    from the pic they do look like rivets... but that is holding the top of the case on isn't it? Why do you want to remove the top? It looks from the pic that side is already removed as well.  ???

      Some boards are easier to take out from the top.  I have a few of these cases but with a slotted processor so I find it easier.  Probably just one he had on hand.
