    FAQ's definetely help. Thanks Dilbert.
    « on: May 07, 2008, 12:45:33 AM »
My trial subscription to Microsoft Office and Works recently ran out.  I did not want to pay MS for all those programs when all I ever use is the word processor. So I did a Google on word processors and found a free program called OpenOffice.  I d/l it and it works fine except that my computer slowed way down.  I was surfing the FAQ's here on software and found the perfect post by Dilbert.  Not only did he recommend this free program but he included instructions on how to disable the Quickstart.  I followed his instructions and bingo! I now have a free word processor that is compatible with Microsoft's Word and my computer is back up to speed.  Thanks again Dilbert!

    I have two questions:

    1.  Can I safely remove Microsoft Office and Works from my computer?
    2.  I really only use the word processor of OpenOffice.  Can I safely remove the other
    programs that came with OpenOffice?

    Cheers,
    Mark

Yes you can uninstall MS Office. I am not sure about what you can uninstall from Open Office.

I can tell you this I had the same problem...wanting a word processor. I didn't want or need anything else. How I solved my problem was with a free word program called AbiWord. It looks and acts just like MS word and get this...its about 6 megs!
