    Need quick help!!!
    « on: May 15, 2008, 08:23:21 PM »
Hey all, so I came on today to visit important web pages I had visited previously, and I noticed that once I open up the History tab on Internet Explorer, I do have different dates (8 weeks ago, Last Week, Today), etc. to choose from, but when I click on them, nothing happens....  So I tried to use the "Search" button, and luckily I found the important web pages from there, but I can't just remember ALL of the information I wanted...I do remember some stuff, so I just type it on the "Search" button and it comes up, but how come all of a sudden when I click on different dates from the past, nothing happens?

So basically I click on them and nothing happens, but I can view them manually if I use the "Search" button to search for them.  When I click on the menues, they don't "expand" and display items within that menu!

Any way to fix this would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

Did you use any cleaner, recently?
BTW...you should store important web pages as favorites.

I am not sure I understand. You added the pages to your favorites but now they are not there?

What browser and version of Windows are you running?

No, it's set to "99" days to keep in history, so that can't be it either =/

What I mean is, when I click on "History", I do see previous dates such as "Yesterday" and "Last week", but when I click on them, they don't expand and show me the pages within that date that I visited.  They don't "Expand", I try to click and nothing happens =/

I was running IE 6, updated to 7 and it still isn't working, same problem.  Windows XP

There are forms of malware out there that cancel out the browsers ability to retain History...

Do they "cancel out", or basically delete it? Because I can still view pages by just typing things in the "Search" box, along with the date I visited the page, etc. from properties.  It's just that when I click on the dates for them to expand, nothing happens...

He means that a virus can disable the browser's ability to display the History files properly.  It doesn't necessarily mean that they are gone.  If I were you, I would take his advice.

Out of curiosity, do you use McAfee VirusScan 6?

In the meantime, try navigating to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Local Settings\History and see if your History folders are there.  If so, can you access any of the sites?

Note:  You have to enable hidden files and folders first.  Also, don't take this as a solution.  It should allow you to access the sites, but there is still a deeper issue here that needs to be resolved.

And I'm not running McAfee VirusScan 6, I'm using AVG now.  Also I will go enable the folders and go look for them.
