MSN Messenger compatibility?
« on: May 18, 2008, 03:13:00 PM »
Strange problem here, I have a laptop that seems to run increadibly slowly if MSN messenger is only installed on it. Older versions cause the wireless to stop functioning properly. The most recent version just seems to make it run slowly. All I can say is what the *censored*?

XP- Service pack 2
Toshiba Satilite Pro
Intel Celeron M
256 Mb of RAM (I think) (DDR2 maybe? Can't remember)
Onboard ATI Graphics (will post more info on this later if nessicary)

And yes uninstalling Messenger does fix the problem but I would like to keep and use it.

MSN live messenger is causing the problem. MSN messenger is fine but. I like the Live version. The problem is just a slow system and I'm 100% sure its messenger.

256 Mb of RAM
This is most likely your problem.
XP likes to have at least 512MB of RAM (1GB preferable).

Nope not the problem at all. This laptop will run faily new games (badly but it does) and not give this sort of trouble. Not to mention that it used to run messenger fine. Unfortunatly MSN was removed from the laptop for a long time and I have no idea what has been added since, that could cause the problem.

Besides all that we're talking XP here not Vista. If I wanted an OS that ate resorces, was unstable and cost $386 then I would probably check myself into a mental institution.

(Sorry about the last bit but Vista sucks! DOWN WITH VISTA!)

[Edit]

RAM is 512Mb
