Quicktime
« on: May 22, 2008, 07:45:32 PM »
Help Please. Quicktime has taken over my IE. It wants to play everything. I don't want it to play Midi files. I have a Midi player for that. I don't want it to play MP3. I want Windows Media Player to play those. Besides Quicktime plays these files badly. Very scratchy. I don't want to delete Quicktime because my daughter needs it for Itunes. I was able to fix the same problem on my laptop with Vista by running the default file program but on XP, it's a different story.

QuickTime is really nasty in this department.
You have to re-associate files.
Right click on any MIDI file, click "Open with", and select your MIDI player from the list, make sure, "Always open..." box is selected, and click OK.
Do very same thing with any other file, you don't want QT to handle.

That was the first thing I tried but it still wants to play my midi files. I even disabled it and then it got really nasty. It wouldn't play anything. As I mentioned, I fixed it in Vista by going to default files program and re-assigned everything there but I can't find any such program on XP.

Uninstall Quicktime.
Then re-associate your midi's with your midi player.
Then DLoad and install Quicktime aAlternative.

Be careful during installation. At some point, it'll ask you about files association.

I dl'd Quicktime Alternative lite and everything is playing as it should. My midi player is playing the midi files and Windows Media player is playing the MP3. I feel so clean after getting rid of Quicktime.

It was put on by my daughter so she could load her ipod. I've since shifted it to my laptop running Vista which has more muscle to handle Quicktime. Thanks
