Start up troubles after new PCI card..
    « on: May 28, 2008, 04:56:17 PM »
Windows XP, SP 1, and I don't know about the rest because the computer won't start up so..
I just put in a Firewire PCI card, but I think a certain cable was also unplugged when I did. Now when I go to start it up, I don't get anything on the screen at all, but it beeps six times. I've tried removing the PCI, trying again, and trying to plug in the cable anywhere it fits honestly, i've become desperate. Nothing seems to prevail. Any help would be appreciated.. And I have images as well.

This is the open computer.. Bottom Left are the cards, the topmost one is the graphics, and bottommost one is ethernet. I had put the Firewire in the middle slot. Notice the cable coming from the top right.

    Here is the cable.

Please help, it's greatly appreciated.. Thanks.

looks like to me that the cable leads right to your dvd/cd rom I can't see in the pic where it goes on the motherboard usually it's labeled where to put it. But that cable should plug into the motherboard look for something that says audio on the board and then plug it in. But I don't think it's the cause of your issue but you ever know.

That is the CD drive's audio cable. That wouldn't stop your computer from booting and it's not necessary to even have it plugged in.

What's the make and model of your motherboard? (it will appear somewhere on the motherboard)

I have no idea.. There's a lot of different things.
        HT CPU Support

        EA=000D872E0744
(Some kind of barcode inbetween these two numbers)
        D88140E33304471

And there's other numbers and such written on various chips.. But I don't know what the motherboard is exactly.. Or where the numbers and such would be located.. =/

The model number is usually printed on the board itself in the same white lettering as most of the other printing.

I didn't build it myself, it was someone else.

check to make sure that your PCI cards are correctly seated. also check to make sure both the main 24 (or 20) pin motherboard connector is connected securely. do the same with the CPU power and CPU heatsink fan power.

Alright will do. But uh.. Where's the motherboard connector?
Sorry, I'm not very fluent with this..
