Panasonic Printer KX-P7100
« on: May 28, 2008, 07:43:18 PM »
When I tried to print a document today my printer wouldn't print. I uninstalled it and re-installed it but no dice. When I try to print from the print console I get "printer is not ready or busy". When I try to print from Properties I can see the job going to the print queue but that's where it stays. No error messages. I know my cable is good because I can see the USB connection on my desktop. I also double checked the USB port. The printer is ready with one green light. Does anyone have any ideas.

Run the printer through a self test and see if it will print a test document, please.

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Spool folder, and see any printing jobs are listed there. If any, delete.

Aegis, when I try to print a test page from the printer console I get the "printer not ready or busy". When I try a test page from printer properties the job does not go to the print queue. I even disconnected the USB cable and hooked it to a printer port and reinstalled the printer. As soon as I turned the printer on, I got the "Found new hardware" message.
Edit. I just tried to install this printer on another computer running XP Pro. and I'm getting the same message. The only thing the print console would let me do is clean it so I know the signal is getting through.

My apologies, Dave.  I'm probably not asking correctly.  Most printers have a diagnostic session which can be run independent of computer control, to test the printer's own hardware, etc.

I found it strange that this one didn't have such a comtrol. In fact, it only had one button "Continue". Finally, I gave up and took it to a Panasonic repair shop here in town. I figure after trying to get it to work on another computer that it was problem with the printer although, for the life of me, I can't figure what could be wrong with it. It gave me the same messages whether connected parallel or USB. I'll know in a few days.
