    Urgent help needed! Repeatingly freezes!
    « on: May 30, 2008, 12:32:00 AM »
I can't get many specs because it even freezes on dxdiag! But heres what I remember:

    AMD Athlon XP (2.1GB)
    Windows XP Home Edition SP2
    nVidia GeForce FX 5100 (64MB)
    512MB RAM
    Realtek Audio

If this helps: It started since I got a new power circuit on my Compaq Presario SR1040AN

    Here's what happens!
There's a very good chance it'll freeze on anything I do - it definitely freezes on flash, macromedia, applications such as photoshop, games, java, right clicking, dropdown boxes, it even froze while I was typing this! I NEED HELP! I CAN'T USE THIS COMPUTER LIKE THIS!

Note: It's a full computer freeze, I have to restart. Sometimes it flickers once and comes back on (rare) and if I leave it on, it'll come back with a blue screen saying that the driver got stuck in an infinite loop (its not my video card, I've cleaned the drivers and installed the newest version).

ALSO! I don't believe it's spyware or adware, I have run scans and removed all infections with Spy Hunter 3, Spyware Doctor, and SUPERAntiSpyware.

Do you have an XP CD with shiny holograms all over it ? ?

I don't think I have the CD anymore. So I wouldn't really know :( You may not be thinking this, but if you're thinking that its a illegal copy of XP, you're wrong. The computer came with XP installed and I checked it all out with that feature on Microsoft that checks validity.

If I do, I don't know where it is.

Do you want me to come to your place, and find it, or what?

        Fatal Error...
Just so you understand the dynamics of a Help Forum i'll explain briefly.
When i ask that question it is in no way intended to demean and/or question your scruples at all...
It is meant only to arrive at qualified answers to people who are in need because their machine is not operating properly.
If you knew how many 5 or 6 Page Topics some of the best Helpers have gone thru collectively with every valid suggestion in the book that should arrive at a solution and then find out..."oh my brother DLoaded XP/Vista/ choose other" from the web then you could relate to our trepidation.
        It happens.
It's a fact of the Computing World.
And it will probably remain so.

So again...no offense intended and maybe this will clarify things.

Buy the way...Welcome to Computer Hope
We can now move on with solving your issues...

Have you opened the case recently to see if all fans are operating properly ? ?
To clean out the heatsinks and fans use a can of compressed air. Hold the fans in place with a QTip when blasting them to prevent damage.

As always when working inside the case remove all power sources and take anti-static precautions....
