    Question on Dual-Core Processors
    « on: May 30, 2008, 04:55:51 PM »
I have a Pentium D dual-core processor, and this is what the entry comes up as on dxdiag:

    Code: [Select]
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)
I've been reading around a little, but I couldn't really find a straight answer:

Does this mean it has two cores running at 2.8 GHz each, or two cores running at a combined total of 2.8GHz? Thanks.

Very strict technicalities aside, 2.8HGz dual core processor will perform operations pretty close to the speed of single core 5.6GHz processor.
