TAR syntax & etc.
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:19:41 AM »
Hi,

I've recently moved to a linux environment, which is new for me, and I've been asked to 'tar' a directory.

I looked up the tar command on the ComputerHope website, and it says to use relative path names for identifying directories and files within directories.

My question is: when I go to untar (tar x), must these specific directories exist, or does the untarring process create them for me?

Thanks,

Matt K.
