I need help to set up a wirless laptop

Here is my problem I have a laptop that is wireless and want to let my buddy use it.  He is fighting cancer and is board and sick all the time.  I have a wireless router to connect my network and he only lives about a half mile away.  Can he hook up to my network using the laptop to browse the internet from his house?......sure could use some help here..............thanks........two-dogs

Basically you want to use the wireless network half a mile away?
    I don't see how that is possible...

there is a way to modify the wireless antennas so they can shoot that far. Iit involves a lot of hardware hacking and adding things to each device. In the long run, it would probably be easier to buy a system that can work at that distance already. check out www.trangobroadband.com and www.enterasys.com. These systems work at very long distances (at work, I have two points set up that are 15 miles apart) but are also very expensive. It would be cheaper to pay for his isp.
