    Drivers After Clean Install
    « on: June 06, 2008, 05:02:41 PM »
On my Desktop for reasons that arent important now (I would think) I had to do a clean reinstall of Windows XP Pro on my Dell computer....
Because of this I dont have my internet back on it yet for the time being....
Anyway, when I went to play a game on it today, I get this message....

    'No hardware acceleration detected.
Your system does not support hardware acceleration or your video drivers should be updated.'

Now, when I do a clean install, wouldnt these drivers be installed as part of that process?
When the computer was as before the reinstall I dont recall ever having to update drivers or anything like that, should I be concerned about this?
Or would this be something that is updated once I'm able to verify my Windows installation once I get online?

Another question, after this clean install I cannot change my Screen Resolution at all, the slider bar wont allow me to adjust it, as well as my color quality, because of this I couldnt install my wireless modem software, because it requires higher settings to run the disk, hence my not getting online, tried adjusting every setting I could think of, any ideas?

Did you install motherboard drivers? You should have separated CD with them.
It definitely looks like drivers are missing.
Go to Device Manager, and look for yellow "?", and "!" marks.
Go to Dell web site, enter your ticket number, and download appropriate drivers.

So these drivers would have come with the computer right? Not with the windows CD I assume....

As far as my internet is concerned, I contacted my Internet provider for the 4th time, and actually got someone who spoke english and knew what she was doing, and said we were missing our modem driver, so I found that and am installing now, hope that works....
The driver says the installation will finish when it connects to the modem, but after 15 minutes it doesnt do anything....

It depends on what is not working.
Video, and modem, I can see, so far.

            Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI

OK, will have to download it to a disk, then install it on the desktop....
I cant do it, when I try to burn the program to disc, I get a 'device error' during the burn, the odd program does that on my laptop, is there another program that will do the same thing?
Another drag is when I do get what you need, I will have to write it out, cant use the net over there, so I will have no way of getting the report to my laptop....

Unfortunately, Autoruns doesn't give any info about hardware.
But may do it another way.
What is not working? Internet, and video has some problems? Anything else?

Internet wont work, missing a driver for the modem, the one I found wont install right....
And the error message I mentioned in the first post....
I really dont know what else may or may not be working at this point, because its a new install, and I havent been on the net with it yet, I havent had a chance to install much of anything.....Not sure what I could test....

When you run Everest, you won't have to write down, and post everything. I'll just ask you couple of questions.
