My computer (I have windows xp) boots up, but takes about two minutes to get to the windows xp desktop (I see all the icons) , but when I click on any of the icons to open up any applications, like word or excel or a game, I have to wait a long time before the app starts.  And thats if it starts.

How do i speed up my computer?  I have aloready defragmented, retored the computer to an earlier time (actually the earliest restore point -two months ago), and Ive dont a system c leanup.  I did do a virus scan and there are several viruses present.  So is the best way to get my computer going to try and remove all the viruses or just do a clean reinstall of the OS?

I just have pictures, music, and a couple of doc files on my computer
