    Laptop fan won't start
    « on: June 14, 2008, 10:40:56 AM »
Hello, My Acer laptop (bought 2006) gets heated up and shuts down because the fan won't start. Took it to Futureshop but they need $40 before they can tell me how much cost is involved. So far, Ive spent thousands of $$ on them but they won't give me a free estimate.
Anyways, I'll deal with them later.
Can someone please give me a rough idea of how much am I looking at to repair the fan. Is it a good idea to buy new laptop instead. Or is it possible that I'v installed vista in XP computer that's why some of the hardware (fan) is disabled.
    Thanks,
    Parag

Seems unlikely to me that Vista shut down the fan. Did it work before you installed Vista?

Was your Vista install from a retail disk that you purchased or an OEM disk that you purchased?

Check the Acer website and see if they sell a replacement fan for your model - if you're halfway handy, you can probably replace it yourself. :)
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?
