    Can't defragment my hard drive
    « on: June 15, 2008, 12:53:50 PM »

I ran chkdsk with /f/v, which worked back when it said it couldn't defragment the drive at all, but it didn't help this time.  Any suggestions?

    That's pretty normal.
Some files cannot be defragmented, usually because they're in use or are too large to effectively defragment.

well dude there are some files which don't get defragmented. if you are so concerned about it then use some 3rd party software like partition magic to deframent.... :)

Woah, look at that large fragmented space. All the red you see in the diagram is all one file. Backup00.bkf.

For the disk to defragment, it must have enough swap space to move that file together.

By any chance do you know what defragmentation does? (specifically)
