:) hi folks! first post ... so be nice!

my problem is that i can't run scandisk for windows - i get an out of memory error.
so, i run scandisk at program start-up. now i get a long-filename error please run scandisk for windows message.
catch 22
i have run scandisk from the c:> prompt: no probs
i have run scandisk from the boot diskette: no probs
but because i can't run it in windows i also can't run defrag or cleanspace wipe - and i'm getting kind of worried :'(
HELP ME IF YA CAN---- THANX ???

How much free space do you have on harddisk?
What programs are started when you try to check disk?

Hi autolycus, I am having a similar problem.  35 Gigs free but defrag and scan disk tell me I am out of memory.  I've shut everything off except for explorer, disconnected from my LAN, and even tried it in Safe Mode.  I had heard that the Windows ME defrag works well, it was just a matter of finding it.  It can be found at http://www.sandylee.net/defrag.aspx look for winme_defrag.zip and download it.

Just in case it doesn't work anyone have any other ideas?    :)

     :) hi folks!
just a note to update you on the current state of play!
i've solved the defrag problem by using diskeeper lite ;) but still unable to run scandisk from windows >:( also unable to run clean freespace  >:( which i badly need to do as my puter contains sensitive material which must be wiped regularly rather than just deleted.
don't give up on me yet guys :-/
