Are you trying to reinstall Windows ME, or...?
By "disc" do you mean CD? What does the label say?

          At A:\>, type:
D (if D is your CD drive)
          Hit Enter.
          You should see:
          D:\>
          Type in:
          OEMSETUP.EXE
          Hit Enter.

I'm confused. You said, the computer had Windows XP installed, but the error message comes from Windows 2000?

                      At D:\> type in:
                      dir
                      Hit Enter.
                      It'll list all files.
Look for something like "setup.exe". Maybe it's just that.
                      If so, type in:
                      setup.exe
                      Hit Enter.

the first message says that is scanning then i got this

Cannot create a temporary directory if you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your hard drive you will need to create an MS-DOS boot partition to set up windows

                            D:\>

I think that I still need your HELP  ::)

when I had my system change from xp to win was because xp was fairly new and i was afraid that i was not going to know how to used it......ignorance i guess which i dearly regret now... :-X

                            It's still confusing.
I still don't understand why you're getting Windows 2000 error, if Windows ME was installed.
Also, the latest error indicates, that your hard drive is formatted with NTFS (Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista), not FAT (Windows ME, 98, and earlier).
If you really want to install ME, you'll have to format hard drive, but...
                            1. I'd rethink the whole project. Windows ME is not good OS.
                            2. I'm ready for bed, so either someone else will chime in, or we'll continue tomorrow.
In any case, don't rush anything.

Ok I got the computer to run now and with the cd inside is giving me  three choices:

                                  Press R to repair
Press ENTER to set up windows 2000
Press f3 to quit without installing

Now should I press R to repair??

I was able to install the cd finally, but now the problem is that is only giving me 16 colors  640 by 480 pixels  DEFAULT MONITOR ON VGA         and no other choices, I think I am missing some programs but not sure which ones I do have some cd's but not sure which ones to install.

so please if I can get some help I will greatly appreciate......I will be waiting....

                                      thank you in advance

                                      patio

You should have a Driver CD that came with the machine....run setup.exe on the CD and install your motherboard/chipset drivers first then there should be video drivers as well unless it's onboard video...if it is it will be included in the chipset driver installation.
                                      Re-boot afterwards.

Then if your display is still off right clik an empty spot on the Desktop and select Properties...choose another setting such as 1024X768 save the setting and re-boot.

                                        If not...

                                        Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
