Actually this is an old Topic-Windows Security Center
    « on: June 17, 2008, 07:59:40 PM »
I have a Windows XP and was having Windows Security Center problems.
Evilfantasy send me help and I have the three logs done. As I was doing the Anti-Malware scan my computer shut-down and  I restarted.
The problem was no longer here. I ran the Anti-Malware scan again. And it has been doing find since. I completed all other instructions. Updated the Java, Ran the CCleaner, and then the HijackThis step. I am now attaching
    the logs.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.
Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
Vista users Right click DSS and Run as Administrator.

    • Close all applications and windows.
    • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
    • When the scan is complete, two text files will open.
      • main.txt <- this one will be maximized
      • extra.txt <- this one will be minimized
    • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply.

OK, I Downloaded The Deckard's System Scanner  in the Administrator account. Closed all applications and Window, then doucle clicked on dss.exe and ran it. BUT, only main.txt came up and I can't get IT to copy
so I can put it in a reply. Any suggestions?

Can you attach the logs instead?

      You can find extra.txt in C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

You say" DO NOT follow these instructions if I am not this user."

The last instructions on the Deckard's System Scanner was to be run in
          an account with' Administrator Privileges.'

Do I run these instructions also in the Administrators account? or can I run them in my usual account?

              • Click OK
              • Click the More Options Tab.

              ----------

Important: You Need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer regularly to protect your computer from the malware and other security threats that are on the Internet. Go to Microsoft Windows Update and get all critical updates.

If you are running any Microsoft Office version go to the Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the critical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update.

              ----------

Make sure all of your security programs are up to date and run scans with them regularly. Once or twice a week minimum.

To prevent unknown applications from being installed on your computer install WinPatrol 2008
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software

Another thing I would suggest installing SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor rates sites on business practices and spam.

Dear Evil, There is NO radio button marked 'Create a Restore Point'.
All that is there is "To begin, select the task you want to perform:
Restore my computer to an earlier time" is marked and then there is a next button and a cancel button on bottom.  When I click on the Help button on the top right corner it also mentions a 'Create a Restore Point" but I can't find one. Now what?
