    win xp startup disk help
    « on: June 24, 2008, 01:12:10 PM »
I am running win xp and if I put a floppy disk in and then right click the floppy drive and click on format a window comes up.

All the way at the bottom of the window is a check box that says  Make MS DOS BOOT DISK.

And if I pick this and make it and then when I restart the computer it boots to the A:/  prompt.

But any commands I enter do not work so what good is bootting to a DOS Prompt?

Am I not understanding what this is that I made and how it works??

I left the MS DOS disk in the floppy drive when I restarted the computer.

And it does boot to the DOS Prompt but you cant use any commands am I useing the MS DOS disk I just made incorect??

What I mean is I did make a win xp boot disk for my compter and it works ok.

I just thought I would try the option Create MS DOS boot disk in the floppy fomat window.

How do I use the MS DOS disk I thought I left it in when the pc boots/
