Hey guys, im looking to buy a 150-200 gb ( i dont think they make 200 gb but instead 250 gb?) external harddrive. It doesn't need to be portable like for traveling but i just want to backup and store my files so i know they're safe =D. I'm looking for the price range to be below $100. Any recommendations? Also, it has to be fast and have a smooth connection (and quiteness is the key!) Thanks

      Is that US$, CAN$ Singapore$ ?

It would give a hint to your location on an international website. Then someone may be able to post advice.

Since you're not worried about portability (and, I assume "pretty!"), why not "make your own?" You can buy a harddrive and a separate enclosure - can be USB or ESATA. 250 GB harddrive ≈$50 and enclosure ≈$20. Just be sure that the harddrive interface and the enclosure interface match. Also make sure the enclosure to computer interface matches what you want - USB or ESATA.

            Good Luck!

just a quick question, if your not getting an external HD for its portability, what are you getting it for? cant you just use an internal HD?

Maybe he wants to put it in a fireproof safe after he copies his files. Makes sense to me.

not that i wish to continue this argument, but he clearly states that it doesnt need to be portable, he only used traveling as an example, hence the comparison word "like." also, regardless of his example used, you need portability whether your carrying the harddrive 1000 miles across the country or 10ft to a safe.

Haha im still here and appreciate all your comments!

I like what drmsucks and michaewlewis proposed. I just want a harddrive that isn't "inside my computer" but instead outside and  independant of its own  for storage purpose. Like you know in case the files in my computer are infected with virus or sorts i'll at least have a seperate harddrive that contain my important files . Not so much for portability because i just want a harddrive for storage that isn't a part of my computer.

Gameaholic,Glad to see you back. For what it is worth i have gone the drmsucks route (for different reasons) and am very pleased with the results.I have what was previously a 250GB internal in a case and it works like a charm. My desire from the portability standpoint was to be able to use it with different computers thus permitting the use of certain software from it without having to have the software on all the computers. Plus only turn it on when i wanted to use those specific things that were stored on it. goodluck, truenorth
