    A question about MS Word
    « on: June 30, 2008, 03:18:26 PM »
    Hello Everyone,

I've recently upgraded MS Word 97 with MS Word 2000.

There is one thing that is driving me nuts.  Everytime I open up a new document the system creates a new Word tab in the task bar.  Therefore I will end up with many separate documents, each of which has to be Xed out of in order to close Word.

There MUST be a simple solution to this problem.

    Is there?

    Thanks

when you select new document that is what is supposed to happen...you can keep opening as many as you like...it does not auto close any other open documents when you open a new one

perhaps it is just a new page that you require?????
Always listen to what others have to say...there will be a time when you will want others to listen to you.

That's an example of me posting this reply and having two separate word documents open.

No, that's not how it works with MS 97.

When you open a new document it should create a new tab, not a whole new installation of Word.  So when you X out of Word you X out of all open documents.

That's not the way this one is running.

Yeah. I know what you mean, Bullwinkle but I don't think it's available in the later versions.

Carbon Dudeoxide, what happens if you open more programs?  Here's what happens on my Win XP Pro system, with Office 2003:

Notice that, in the lower image, the two Word taskbar buttons have been stacked and a number 2 appears next to the Word icon to indicate two Word windows are open.

That's if you check the 'Group Similar Taskbar Buttons'. He is talking about this.....I think:

Actually, there's an easier way to close multiple taskbar buttons for a particular application.  Select one button, then hold down the Ctrl key while selecting one or more additional buttons.  Then, right click and select "Close Group".
