    Reloading Windows XP Pro
    « on: July 01, 2008, 11:26:35 AM »
I am trying to reload my Dell D620 Laptop with Windows XP Pro SP2. When I get to the step were it is copying files to the Windows installation folder, I get an error telling me that "Setup cannot copy the file: fsvga.sys. It than tells me to "Press enter to retry", "Press escape to skip the file", or press F3 to quit.  I have tried 3 different cd's and tried 2 different CD-R drives, reseated the memory stick, and reseated the hard drive.  I am now leaning towards replacing the hard drive. Any ideas on what might be causing this problem?

Can you post your hardware specs?

Pull everything out of your machine that you don't need to just get the machine loaded. If you have more than one RAM chip pull one of them out leave the min you can get by with to load the machine.

Than try to load it again.

        Hardware Specs:
        -40 GB hard drive
        -1 GB RAM
        -DVD R/RW Burner

The machine is running the minimum to operate. I also reformatted the hard drive.

Memory problems are the usual cause of "cannot copy <filename>" messages during XP install.

Hi i used have the same problem but with a different file, i just pressed the escape button and it carried on installing. The only reason i came up with why this was happening was the copy of XP i was using was not a legal copy. The guy who built my computer gave it to me

Those hardware specs were pretty comprehensive...
