Some big computer issues (computer #1 - uncle)
    « on: July 10, 2008, 08:51:28 PM »
Ok 2 days ago my uncle wanted me to install a anti-virus which is good since his Norton subscription ran out a couple of months back. Norton didn't detect any viruses and my uncle scanned daily. Well we installed Avg and after the install it detected Zlob.downloader ,PSW.banker3 ,and A couple of others trojans. Well we removed them and the next reboot the start bar kept freezinf when you tried to access the sound well all the "Fixes" on google failed and Now the problem has progressed now the system itself will freeze when booted normally about 5 minutes after. I'm in safe mode right now and detected yet more trojans again. I am going to attach a hijackthis log in an attempt to receive extra help. Also note his taskbar wasnt freezing until after we removed the trojans.

Operation System:Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium Basic
Anymore needed info I will provide.

I can boot into the computer but the problem is everytime you try to click or rightclick the sound thing on the taskbar it freezes and then soon after the whole computer will freeze/hang to where even the task manager cant be started.

Safe mode runs perfectly but this person wants it working like it was before again but everyone keeps saying on google to contact microsofts tech support and ask for the hotfix you need to fix it but to contact them it costs like 50 bucks............

The computer is infected, so there is no "hot fix" for it. It has to be cleaned up.
What do you mean by "click or rightclick the sound thing"? What sound thing?

It's up to us to judge that.
If you can operate in Normal Mode, leave that volume control alone, and follow steps below (exactly, and in given order):

        1. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
        http://www.superantispyware.com/

            * Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
            * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
            * If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
            * Close SUPERAntiSpyware.

        PHYSICALLY DISCONNECT  FROM THE INTERNET

        Restart computer in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; select Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen

            * Open SUPERAntiSpyware.
            * Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
            * Click the Scanning Control tab.
            * Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
                  o Close browsers before scanning.
                  o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
            * Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
            * Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
            * On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
            * On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
            * Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
            * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
            * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
            * A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
            * If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
            * To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
            * Click Close to exit the program.
        Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

        RECONNECT TO THE INTERNET

        RESTART COMPUTER!

        2. Post new HJT log.

Well my uncle says he wants me to do it tommorow because hes going to bed but I can tell you know I dont think its a problem with a virus. I installed avg and zone alarm on my aunts computer aswell on the same day and it started having this problem aswell. Thats why I said I doughted that was it. Now her computer was completly free of viruses before I installed avg(checked it online with 2-3 sites used avast, and used AVZ on the VistaPE disc before we bought the pc).

Also used Superantispyware, and spybot, and adaware se and the ALL said it was clean.

NOTE:I believe Avg or zonealarm created the error because before I installed them on both computers they were working fine. I tried uninstalling avg and zone alarm from ym aunts computer to see if it would fix it but it is as if avg/zone alarm damaged the taskbars registry or something idk......
