    Touchpad not working...
    « on: July 16, 2008, 03:08:33 AM »
Okay, I've had some problems with my laptop's touchpad recently.

First, I noticed some messages saying that the computer detected another pointing device and the advanced features of my touchpad wouldn't be working properly. I found this strange though, because I've been using the USB mouse for a long time before this happened. Anyway, the touchpad still worked fine after that message.

Next, sometimes my touchpad stopped working. When I turned on the computer and tried to move the pointer around with my touchpad, nothing happened. I also checked the Control Panel but everything was working properly (at least the Control Panel said so  ::)). Then I tried restarting my computer, and the touchpad worked again. Once even the keyboard stopped working.

But now, the touchpad has stopped working completely. Even restarting my computer didn't help.

I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, operating system is Windows XP Professional (SP1).

Please tell me how to fix the problem, thank you!

I tried what the guide said, and the Touchpad worked again...

I'm not sure if this was a coincidence or not, since I didn't change any of the settings...  :-\

So I'll just have to wait and see if this works out.

        Still, thanks guys :)

Anyu particular reason you never updated your OS to SP2?  At this point, I suggest going directly to SP3

          Touchpad still doesn't work!

I turned on my computer today and found out that the Touchpad still didn't work...

          Any other solutions?  :-\

Sorry, I guess I should probably have looked at it first....

I just cant understand what could be causing it.
Did you contact Lenovo about it?

I wanted to ask about it on here first.

I'd say that would be your best bet.

You might get a replacement or something.

              Good luck.  ;)

@fanh: Have you installed updated drivers for the Touchpad? Does the Touchpad work if you remove the USB mouse adapter?

Have you checked the Touchpad in Device Manager? Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager, look for your Touchpad, is it properly configured? Any yellow exclamation marks?
