    software wont let me connect
    « on: July 18, 2008, 08:04:54 AM »
I have windows Vista Ultimate on a zoostorm pc.
I installed family safety service from windows live care from a site on the web some months ago, as my granddaughter was using my pc. She has now got her own, so I didabled this programme on the start up. When I tried to log on this morning it said that it had been disabled and I could not use the internet until it was enabled and to ask the administrator to sort it. I enabked it in the start up but it still says the same. I did a system restore twice and still can't access the internet at all. I phoned microsoft and they said to go to the help site on line, I can't find anything there to help me at all. I am now using my daughters pc to get some help. I am at my wits end as I cant find any referebce to this on my pc or on the net, is there anyone there who knows of a way round this please?  I work on my pc and I am now beginning to panic, desperatly yours Katz.

Should I also say that it is a free version and that I dont use it as my anti virus, I use bullguard a/v. I just used the one care for cleaning off some of the junk you get on your pc. I am just a bit scarred here lol.

          Another Method...

Keep in mind there are alot of people that have had issues with Windows Live Care components...
I stay as far away from them as i can.

I thank you all for your support and help. unfortunatly I cannot connect to the internet on my pc at all, so these solutions are of no help at this moment. I need to re format my pc, and having to do that have found another problem, with Vista there is no restore disk you do it from the hard drive, alas none of my buttons suggest that it is accessible to me. I have someone look up the makers website and it is under construction! My luck continues. So I asked this person to look up directions on the net and he has found numerous complaints from users and experts alike that the partition file seems to be hidden on this make of pc!
I am not a quitter so I will endeavour untill I get back on the internet again with all m y buddies and back to work also. Will let you all know how I get on and will give thanks that I had a need for some help and discovered this little gem of a site. Once gain thank you all for trying and a very good lesson learnt here.

Ok - hang on a minute! :) Before you re-install Vista:

I am not familiar with the Windows family safety service which you installed. However, when you installed it, didn't you have to select certain parameters for the program to restrict access? And didn't you provide a password to prevent changes to your parameter selections? Are you certain that you have accessed the program and disabled protection - you would need to enter your password; disabling the program in Msconfig will not work, it will just lock you down, as it did.

I really think that the key to your problem is to disable the protection that YOU ENABLED, from within the program.

              Best of luck!

                Also - try this:

Start>Run>type cmd, enter>type services.msc, enter: look for a service named Safety Service or Family Safety Service or similar. If you find it, right-click on the service, select Properties, change the 'startup' to Automatic. Okay, and exit dialogue box. Re-boot computer.

                Post back.

katzyin,The link i provided earlier does not require internet access to perform.Only need the access to read and copy the instructions to execute the disable. You do seem to have access via some computer to be doing this dialogue? I also in my research to try and assist you discovered the many problems with this particular program (many in the removal aspect). If i might suggest for future process-- do a google search to ascertain the user comments on any given program that seems to interest you BEFORE downloading and installing it. Better to benefit from others experiences that have problems.goodluck, truenorth
