speakers make a noise

My speakers make an intermittant clicking noise. Sometimes it goes along time with out this, then it starts doing it. About once every two minutes it "clicks". I am using Windows Media Player. thanks

What happens if you try other speakers or use headphones/earphones?

Can you try these speakers on another computer?

What kind of clicking sounds are they?

What other electronic devices are being used near the speakers when you get the 'click?' Wireless/cellular telephone, microwave, external harddrive, etc?

XP home. I also installed a new xp system and it still makes the noise.

Although I have not tried different speakers. It just makes a "click" noise randomly when listening to or watching a dvd, cd using WMP. And it can go awhile without making this noise.

How about reinstalling the speaker controlers or updating them? Thanks

You can try reinstalling them but I strongly suggest you trying Headphones/Earphones or another pair of speakers. I think it may be a fault with the speakers themselves.

I tried using a headphone set instead and it still makes the clicking noise...

Check to see what model your Sound Card is and find the drive online. (normally at the manufacturer website)

I had this problem. likely a hardware conflict between the sound card/hardware and some other component. In my case I've had it happen with a Sound card and a TV tuner, as well as two sound cards at once. (the audigy sounded like crap, but the generic PCI card was fine.)


Reinstalling the Sound Drivers might fix the issue, or you could try simply removing it from device manager. Then, when you reboot, Windows might give it a different set of resources that will work more reliably. (reinstalling the sound driver would likely be the first thing to do, as stated)
