i herd though that a dual wither higher clock speeds will be better then a quad with lower ??? ???

dual core at higher frequency is able to perform at the same level as a quad core clocked lower.

in that scenario, heat might be a problem for the dual core, the more cores, the less "stress" is put on each core.

using a classic example: imagine trying to wear one sock on two feet. the sock is the core, under stress.

getting two socks, to cover your two feet puts less stress on the sock. one feet per sock. :p

o so the q6600 would proform as well as the e8400 but the q660 would have less stress correct? so by the sounds of things a quad would really be the better faster option?

i would say so. besides, we all gotta keep up with technology. since you're considering an upgrade, why not go for the quad?  ;)

bearing in mind difference in costs of course.

so what one is better? the q6600 or the q9300? the q6600 can be overclocked more because of a higher multiplyer and aslo has more cache but the q9300 has that sse something or other that the q6600 doesnt have that helps with multimedia plus its 45nm  what one?

One more thing if its not too late, does the Q6600 have 45nm technology? The E8400 does and it is a definite plus when it comes to lack of heat and power consumption.

          Edit
Well, I guess if the Q9300 has 45nm tech. than your question is... how much is in my budget?

i guess the q9300 might be too much cause i need to buy ram, motherboard, and graphics card
