64-Bit
« on: February 14, 2005, 04:32:41 PM »
I was wondering if there are any good OS that work with the AMD Athlon 64.  I heard that XP Pro doesnt work with the 64-bit CPU and I'd have to download some crappy OS.
Please some one help me.

WinXP-Pro will soon have a 64-bit edition.

You can download a trial edition or order a CD trial edition.

Yea somebody told me that OS was really horrible and to just go with a 32-bit CPU and get XP Pro.
So have you(or anyone else) tried it and it works good.

Yup.  64-bit not for mainstream use.  Go with 32-bit and WinXP-Pro.

I haven't tried it, all my computers are old and slow, but fast enough for my use.

Ditto, CC ;)

Anyway, A 32-bit OS will work with a 64-bit processor: the two 64-bit PC's on sale where I work come with the 32-bit XP. You just won't make full use of it. Alternatively, many Linux distros have been compatible for a while now.

You don't have to download the crappy 64-bit version of XP - you don't have to download Windows at all... ;D

i agree.....XP will work with 64-bit CPU's you just will not get full use of it......  Dont worry whenever "Longhorn" comes out that OS will only support 64 bit CPU's
