    Memory stick
    « on: July 28, 2008, 05:38:21 PM »
    Hi there,

My dad has a problem. When he puts his memory stick into the computer and then goes into Windows Explorer it is not finding it??? Like it doesn't exist.  Therefore you cannot open anything file on the stick.  BUT then if he goes into Excel and opens one of the files that had recently been opened ie. Goes into "File" and opens a document listed on the bottom, he can open it!! and then if you go into "Save as" it shows D:Nano. So it's there!!!! But he can't open any Word document because he cannot find it????

Does anyone know how he can find this?

Sorry if it doesn't make sense.

Not sure if this is a mistake or not but you need Microsoft Word to open Word files. (.doc)

As for your memory stick not showing up, can you see it if you go to My Computer?

      Hi,

oh yes, I meant I looked in Excel and I can open excel files from the stick when i go into "File" and open a document from the bottom list of file names. But I cannot open any Word files as there hasn't been any recent files opened.

No it's not there in "my computer"

Is there some sort of security switch on the memory stick. I know SD Cards have them.

mmm Not sure, will have to have a look. But why would I be able to open a file on the memory still if i go in through Excel, "File" and then the document from the list at the bottom>?? If there was a security lock, it wouldn't allow me to open that way either. ?? ???

        Hmmmm....that is strange...
Look for the switch though and see what happens.

Have you tried turning on the computer with the stick in it? That's another forum's response suggestion, and it's worked for me before - the stick was bad, never trusted them again.  Good luck.

Right click My Computer and select Manage...
          Then select Disk Management....

How is it reported there ? ?
If it is listed right click it and select Properties and report back with the results...
