I have a small workgroup comprised of 5 machines.  1 of my windows clients can't see any other of the 4 machines for what reason I don't know, nothing got changed from the night before when it worked properly.  This machine still has internet connectivity so I know the connections are proper.

If anyone has any ideas what the problem could be It would be most appreciative for help.

Try to describe the environment and the problem some more. How are the workstations getting their IP addresses - statically entered by you or is one of the machines a DHCP server? When you say that the malfunctioning PC can't "see" the others, does that mean that it users on it can't browse to other PCs' shares? Did you make any password changes?

ip's are given through my linksys router as dhcp no modifications were made whatsoever from when they were working to now.

as for the computer not being able to 'see' the other computers, they actually cann't even browse to them to see any shares at all.

        try to do the following..
click start...Programs.....Accessories...Comm unication...Click Network Setup Wizard...
Rejoin your PC to your Existing Workgroup..with All Previous Information...
        Browse your Network..
        Is it Worked?

        Not So!!!
I have written about this a few times in CH.

I have 3 machines, each with its own workgroup, and they can see and access each other.
When you have Remote DeskTop, yes then the IP should be Static and must be the same WorkGroup.

-Just ensure all Pc's have Dynamic DHCP!!!
        -Shut down all Pc's.
-Do a Cold Start on your Router, that means: unplug all cables including the Power Cord (important), and lets that sit for 10-20 Min's. This will (hopefully) clear the ARP Stack.
-Plug in all cords on the Router and restart the Pc's and Log on.
-Restart the Router, and let the Router allocate the IP's.  Do Not Reset to Factory Setting.  Watch the Log. It should take up to 20 Min's to have all Pc's on board.
-Ensure proper Access Rights for Folder and Users.

-This should do the trick, have done it many times!

          Bearwithme,

I would attempt the crude way to solve it.

          On the affected  PC:

First go Computer Management (local), Device Manager: to see if there are any Balloons, if so then fix them.
Check "Shared Folders" for any funnies.

          If that does not help:
Go to Network Connections: - Network Tasks.
Work through the list checking the Connections and all their Tabs using:
          "Start this Connections"
          "Change Windows Firewall Setting"
          "Change settings of Connections"

          If that does not help:
Delete all the Connections, then shut down and re-start.
Back to  Network Connections: - Network Tasks.
          Re-install the connections.

          Good Luck.
