Is your sound connection connected from your CDROM to the motherboard?

This hasn't been neccessary since Win98...

    HD = High Definition Audio

    I really can't see as how putting a sound card would change not having a device. The Altec Lansing speakers never came with a device driver. I just plugged them in, and they worked. How about disabling the HD and using AC97??

      didn't work...I uninstalled the Realtek HD drivers, and now they won't reload >:( The AC97 does. I don't know what to do....I have been trying to make this work all weekend :-[
