    Context menu editing help
    « on: August 07, 2008, 10:18:28 AM »
When I right click and go to "new" I get a whole bunch of file types that come up, of which I only use one or two. I want to edit the context menu. I have downloaded a couple of utilities. The first one was useless. The second one is called ShellExview,  gave me a long list of program ,many of which are connected to the context menu. It allows you to disable them so they don't show up in the context menu. I did but it didn't seem to have any effect.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Thank you

You have to be very careful when editing the context menu; you can really mess things up if you do it incorrectly.  If you make us a list of the items you want removed, perhaps we can properly assist you.

Also ShellExView is a very good program, but changes take effect after restart.
    Follow CBMatt's advice, first.

Be right back as I try ShellExView on one of my experimental computers.

I couldn't change the context menu. I can add shortcuts to places like My Computer and Control Panel, that's pretty much it....unless I'm missing something.....

    I found this:

I'm going to try it out too.

Yes. I right click on any item in ShelExView, click Disbale Item, restart computer, and the entry doesn't show up.
