Author Topic: BATTLEFIELD 2142 BIG PROBLEMS need help please (Read 14391 times)

This is my 1st post, i hope sombody can help me.
Ive been playing Battlefield 2142 now since it came out 1st class game by the way, anyway something came on my screen the other day wanting me to write files to disc, it was files & folders from the game i just closed it down and ever since then when ive tried to play the game all i was getting was audio & the options page where you pick your weapons, and the mouse would not work every time i loaded the game it did this and on every server i went on.
So i thought i would uninstall the game & reinstall it as you do, but no it was going on about it could not uninstall because it could not determine the path?

what ever that means as i am a noob when it comes to this.
so ive went and deleted all the files that i could find for battlefield 2142, then went back into add/remove progs and most of the prog was gone leaving only 10.38mb, and i managed to delete that, ssssssssssssooooooooo, now i cant find any trace of it on my P.C.
But now the game will not load in when i try to reinstall the disk all i get is readme/exit/start BF2142/advanced/EAinfo. but the game will not load in putting the curser over them nothing happens aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

What do i do HELP HELP

Welcome to CH.

What Windows Version is this?

When you put the disc in, go to My Computer and Right Click the CD Drive (with the disc in it)
Go to Explore.
This will bring you into the disc. Find a file called 'setup.exe' or something similar.

Try that and post back.

Hi there i tried the set up exe as you suggested but no joy.
this message came up-- THE CURRENT VERSION OF THE APPLICATION COULD NOT BE DETERMINED, THE SETUP WILL NOW TERMINATE. so i still cant install the game. frell &frack it.

Is there a file called Autorun.exe? If not, try Autorun.inf

Wait, do you mean CD Drive or the actual Hard Drive? (I think it's the CD Drive)

Is this an original Battlefield CD, not a copy? What about Windows? Are they both genuine?

yeah sorry cd drive,and yes genuine game not a copy it keeps coming up, The current version of the application could not be determined, the set up will now terminate.
like i said i have deleted all the files i could find on battlefild 2142 but there must be something stopping me from reinstalling the game as the above message keeps coming up

sorry for the hassle but i love my gaming and now i am going cold turkey for a battlefield fix lol

When you install a game, you cannot simply remove all the program files. Even though you think you have removed all files from the game, you still have the registry. From the System Registry's point of view, the game is still installed.

In fact, this just gave me an idea.

Download and run CCleaner.
In the Registry section in CCleaner, Click Scan for Issues a few times and then Fix Selected Issues.
Repeat this one or two times.
CCleaner will prompt you to back up the registry. I suggest you do.

yeah it was jusy like when i went into the disc to explore it, it was the same think but it wanted me to write to a disc ?? so i just went and shut it down ie with the x , if that makes sense

All right.

The last thing I can suggest is a System Restore to a few days before this happened.
If that doesn't do anything, maybe a System Restore to a few days before you install the game.

Hi carbon back again, ive tried a system restore but it only goes back to may this year but i installed the game back in2006 when the game came out or should i say thats roughly when i got the game.A guy at my work reckons i should set it back to factory settings but i am not sure how to do that. Plus will i not lose my other stuff that ive got on the P.C. MUSIC/PICTURES etc if i put it back to factory settings??? ANY other ideas mate.?

Yes DO NOT do a factory reset. You will revert your computer to the first day you gave it life.

I am afraid I am out of ideas at this point.

The only option I could think of now is to install Battlefield on another computer in a Sandboxed environment.
Then, since you deleted the files on this computer, copy them over from the other machine.
Logically, it should work. Computerally, it might not.

You interested in trying this? (if no one has anymore ideas)

it does'nt sound to good, i wouldnt know where to start.
what if i put on a disc of all my piccys and stuff just burn everything on to discs & take a digital photo of my desk top so i will know what programes i have ?? would that work??

With my idea, you need two computers.

What you do is install Battlefield in a Sandboxed Environment on the good computer. This means we can see the changes being made and all the files are collected up.( I'll walk you through this part - hard to explain).
Then you need to copy the files from the good computer to the bad computer.
This should work because what you did with the bad computer is delete the files. This will replace the deleted files.

That's what I'm suggesting. If you're up for it, I'll walk you through it.

I will get my friend to install the game on his pc but will it work as he will need to put in the key code so i dont know if it will work as ive regstered it for battlefield.
is this what you think i should do. get him to install it in his system then copy it into mine??

You can try it but you will have to install it through Sandboxie.

You have to run the Battlefield setup through Sandboxie, and then copy the folder C:\sandbox over to your computer.
Then I will help you from there.

Hello every one,
i have a small broblem... my battlefield 2142 broke and i used my friends dvd to copy the image with alcohol 120 and i used Daemond tool lite to make a virtual drive so that i can launch the game but when it launches a error report appeares and says that i cannot run it from a backup. i enabled all the emulator from daemond tools 4.xx and no luck.So i googled and found a program that hides the fact that it is virtual. the program is caled PrOtStOp_v1.1. What are the steps i have to do for a successful play. This is not illeagal i believe beacause im am doing this as my own own original dvd back up. (well my friends)....Please help...thx in advance..
