Firefox add-on - Tab Splitter
« on: August 11, 2008, 12:27:20 AM »
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7327

Tab Splitter splits your browsing area into two panels which are resizable and can be positioned either horizontally or vertically. You are allowed to drag and drop tabs between the two browsers or you may right click on links and open the link in either of the two browser. Tab Splitter also features its own tabs and url bar. Complete with a search bar and advance search features.

I installed it, I like it, and I know I'll have use for it

I'm keeping my Firefox 2 but I've downloaded Firefox 3 portable.

There we go. ;D

Interesting....I guess it's time to turn on my experimental laptop.

First I have to clear my desk. It's buried.

The splitter thing isn't bad either.

If you gave me that link to Hack-A-Day earlier, I would have started using FF3 earlier, LOL.  :P

It gave me something to do today, reinstalling Add-Ons and Importing Bookmarks.  ;D

One downside of the add-on is you can't use other add-ons in the split window.

Of course, you owe me something.....a smile :)
I'm glad, it worked for you. I'd have told you about that site, but I wasn't aware, you didn't know about it.

I don't think, it's gonna bother me, because I'm gonna mostly use it, when I need to see two pages at the same time.

A whole days work setting up both FF2 and FF3, reinstalling add-ons and settings.

Totally worth it. Thanks again.  :)

Carbon - Why do you want to keep FF 2?
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

I'm starting to ask myself that question now.....but I don't like change.
I appreciate change if I take it in a small step at a time.  ;)

Also, a of my add-ons don't work in FF3 and my favorite theme only works with FF2.  :(

Heh, Now I have to re-teach the Spell Check.

I had very same issue, when FF 3 came out. Some of my add-ons were not compatible, so I waited about a month, using FF2. Now, all good.

      I don't have the 489,589,167 add-ons that you guys use ::)

I really miss Faster Fox, though.

      I have only 489,589,167-489,589,120 :)
Personally, I've never seen any real difference by using FasterFox.

Hey, you can't leave, or what?....LOL

Ok, a little update on my FF3 Experience.

I think the new Address Bar is GREAT. All I have to do is stat typing what I viewed earlier today and it found it from my history. Absolutely fantastic!
Finding themes however has gotten hard for me. I have ended up sticking with the Default Theme. (Macfox Graphite II isn't compatible with FF3 yet)
Quite a lot of my add-ons aren't compatible either but I will manage.
One thing I dislike THE MOST of Firefox 3 is the Memory Usage Issue. It just keeps increasing and doesn't go down. I'm starting to think it's cacheing everything to the temporary storage instead of storing it in the Temporay Files. I notice every time I restart the browser, it loads all the images from ComputerHope again.
Every time I open a new tab, the memory usage increases normally. However, unlike FF2, it doesn't go down like FF2 when the tab is closed.
Hey Broni (or anyone), know any way to fix this?

As for the topic subject, Tab Splitter is working pretty well for me.  :)

        As for memory usage...
For some people, it uses less memory, than FF2, for some, more. Why? Go figure.
Personally, with 2GB of RAM, I really don't pat attention to it.
        Why should it matter?
You don't run out of memory, do you?
Running all bunch of programs, like right now, Firefox, Thunderbird, Winamp, Windows Explorer, and Wordpad, I have CPU usage at 10% (which is the most important), and RAM usage at 50%, so what do I care how much memory Firefox uses.

I was using Macfox in Firefox 2 also.  I ended up switching to iFox.  I used the Stylish extension to change a few things in iFox. (I added throbbers and progress bars to the tabs, made the "Go" button in the address bar permanent, and combined the refresh and stop buttons.)

You're right Broni, it doesn't really matter. I have 1GB of RAM but I don't have many applications running at once. At startup, I'm using 250mb Page File.

Hey Kip, i'll have a look at iFox and the Stylish extension. Who knows, perhaps I'll find something.  ;)
