    ThreatFire conflict.
    « on: August 14, 2008, 09:10:49 AM »

I have been running ThreatFire and Zone Alarm together with my ViaVoice speech recognition program for quite some time without any problems. The other day I had an e-mail from ZoneAlarm inviting me to update. I had a good deal of trouble trying to download the update. I then found that ZoneAlarm was not working at all. I uninstalled it and did a new installation using an oldcomputer magazine disc.
When I tried to use my speech recognition program ThreatFire produced several messages that a potentially malicious program was found. There are options to kill and quarantine or proceed and to remember the decision. Each of the warnings related to a ViaVoice component. Four of them accepted the instruction to proceed but the 5th caused the computer to freeze. When I shut it down using the start button about 15 programs had to be closed down by the windows task manager. None of these programs are shown as my running by the task manager in the ordinary way. I have uninstalled  ZoneAlarm but the problem persists. If I shut down ThreatFire, the speech recognition program works and the computer does not freeze.
I am sending the hijack this log. Can anyone help please.

I've moved this to the Computer Virus and Spyware Forum.

Gerry7, first of all Welcome to the Forums. If sit tight, a Malware Specialist will be along shortly to help you here.
However, you might consider looking here and posting the three logs.

    Your running two antivirus.

I (as well as Microsoft, McAfee and Symantec)  recommend that you DO NOT have more than one antivirus product installed and running on your computer at a time.

The real-time protection of two antivirus programs may conflict with each other and cause the following:

    1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
    2) Conflicts: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
    3) Performance: More that one antivirus will cause your PC to become slow and it may even crash or blue screen.

I strongly suggest you either configure only one antivirus program to enable automatic real-time scanning, and leave the rest disabled, using them for on-demand scanners or go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program.

Thanks. Are there any views as to which I should keep please, Avira or ThreatFire?
