    DVD wont read written discs
    « on: August 16, 2008, 07:30:06 AM »
When I put a blank DVD+RW disc into my LG DVD writer disc is recognised I then write data to disc using nero 7, burn process is verified.
When I try to play the disc the DVD drive does not recognise the disc, but if I insert the same disc into my second DVD rom drive the data is displayed.
The LG writer will read some older DVD+RW and Original DVD discs.
I think the problem arose when I installed Daemon tools,I have uninstalled the program but not sure if everything was removed from registry.

Are you finalising the burns ? ?
Have you uninstalled or unmounted the Daemon drive ? ?
This has been known to cause issues...

The burns are finalised they will play on my other DVD Rom drive. I have uninstalled daemon tools and did complete search for files and folders.

If you burned anything that is copyrighted it some drives won't read it because the stuff you burned might have been copyright protected.

The data is not copyright protected.

Did you unmount any Daemon drives in Disk Management ? ?
This is not done automatically when un-installing Daemon...

There are no Daemon drives in Disk management only my LG and Plextor drives.
I have noticed in Removable Storage/Libaries - only the Plextor drive is listed.

I have done a registry search with 'daemon' it found  : IE component categories cache daemon,  Component categories cache daemon,  NVCpl daemon and Daemon response Timeout. Should I delete these entries.

I wouldn't...i don't believe these are related to Daemon Tools.
Have you tried another brand of blank media ? ?
Does the drive exhibit any other issues ? ?

I have tried a different brand DVD just the same. The only difference with the drive it takes a lot longer to burn a disc.

The drive may be failing....how old is it ? ?
You can also swap it into another machine to see if it exhibits the same symptoms...if so it's time for a new drive.

Dual-layer burners are as low as 40 Bucks shipped from newegg if you're in the States.

The LG Drive is 4 months old and has latest firmware plus new IDE cable.

Did this start happening after the latest firmware update by chance ? ?

I have just replace LG drive with old Sony drive. The Sony read  the discs the LG could not.
I thought problem solved faulty LG drive. I started  erasing test discs when Sony ejected disc halfway through format and would not read anymore discs. Rebooted PC then noticed Sony drive not recognised in Bios, checked connections rebooted still not in bios. This problem with bios recognition has happened in the past  replaced IDE cable everything was OK.
Now not sure if I have a faulty drive or system problem.
