    Network Cable Unplugged?
    « on: August 13, 2008, 08:26:07 PM »
So all of a sudden one day my computer wasn't finding the onboard network adapter. I thought ok... it must have gone bad. As everything else on the mobo is fine. so i bought a Linksys ethernet adapter and installed it, installation went fine.

However, it is prompting that a network cable is not plugged in...

I checked the device manager and it says the device is working correctly.

It is a custom built computer with windows xp.

any ideas what would cause this?

I have a feeling i have to replace the mobo... am i right?

Are you sure it's not the cable itself that is damaged?

If you are 100% the cable is fine, perhaps a System Restore should be performed to a few days before the problem.

If that still hasn't fixed it, we'll think of other means. (possibly replacing the motherboard, but lets not get too ahead of ourselves :D )

Or, you may have to go into BIOS, and disable the "onboard" Ethernet card.

    Hello!
What is your mobo anyway? Does it still has warranty?
We have the same case here. We have ASUS P5L-VM1394. What we usually do is to have it on for at least 10mins then we would log it again on the network. If that doesn't work, we restore the system few days prior the problem, as what carbon had said. Good thing is that it was still covered by the warranty and we have it replaced. Our supplier gave us P5 KPLVM as replacement.
