    My favorite apps
    « on: August 21, 2008, 10:22:54 AM »
Just thought I'd post a few my favorite freeware apps.

    Katmouse - http://ehiti.de/katmouse/

Useful for scrolling in non-active windows.

    AIMP2 - *Blocked Russian URL*/
    Google translation page - http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

Nice music player that also has a converter and sound recorder.  The sound recorder can be used to record the sounds on your computer, like game music and the like.  One problem I have found is that it does not like mp4 files.  It will not add them to the library and it will not convert them.  It can however play them.  Seems odd to me.  I would report it but the site is in russian.  However, Google does a pretty good job of translating it.

    NDvd - http://www.dnsoft.be/dn_software/dn_freeware/dn_info_freeware/ndvd/index.htm

A good DVD player.  Has a frame step feature.  Does not have any keyboard shortcuts, but still pretty good.

    TheSage - http://www.sequencepublishing.com/thesage.html

Cool dictionary with nice thesaurus functions

If anyone knows of better alternatives please share.

        Hey Fireballs.

I think my ZenKey (http://www.camiweb.com/zenkey/) is the same kind of thing as your Launchy.

I didn't include Winamp in my first post because I thought most everyone knew about it.  However, it is an awesome media player, provided that you don't screw it up by trying too many plugins.

CamStudio (http://camstudio.org/) seems like a cool app, but it runs kinda slow for me.

My all-time favorite desktop toy goes by many names.  I'm not sure which is correct, and I don't know who made it.  All I know is its fun to destroy your desktop (don't worry, its safe!)  Anyways, here are two reviews and downloads:
        http://www.goldfiles.com/portal.php?fileid=93&com=all
        http://www.brothersoft.com/stress-relief-83957.html
Qliner Hotkeys (http://www.qliner.com/hotkeys/) controls actions assigned to the windows key with a nice interface.

Allsnap is useful also (http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~iheckman/allsnap/).  Makes windows snap to the desktop borders.

I also know of many good freeware games if anyone is interested.

yer i use camstudio to make my youtube videos. It is a little slow/low resolution but it works and is free!

lol yer i used to have that desktop destroyer, so much for and stress releiving!

I'm not sure Zenkey is the same, all that Launchy does is: i type alt + space and type in some letters say: "win" and it suggests winamp, i press enter and it launches winamp no need for any mouse movesments!

Looking at the ZenKey i'm not sure exactly what it does but the screenshots show some funky stuff!!

Yes, the ZenKey creator has an odd sense of humor, and yes, Launchy does sound different.  ZenKey is still nice though.
