my keyboard suddenly stopped working.....?

i woke up this morning to find that my computer had restarted and my keyboard wasnt working. the keyboard is not a usb... its the normal round purple plug.. hah.. i tried restarting and it came up keyboard error... the keyboard lights also lit up upon rebooting but in my drve list it doesnt show up. i switched keyboards from another computer and that one didnt work either. i also updated windows (xp) and still nothing. anyone have any ideas as to what may have caused this and how to fix it?

What's the keyboard status in Device Manager? Is it listed? Any errors?
Did you try System Restore?

When all fails, try a usb adapter to your existing keyboard connection

it doesnt show up in the device manager... i havent tried restore

Is the second keyboard, you tried, also PS/2 (rounded one)?
If so, to eliminate PS/2 port being shot, try USB keyboard, or if you don't have one, get PS/2 to USB adapter.

Ok.. I don't have one, so I'll have to buy one I guess..

I just don't understand what happened! It's been working fine for.. forever. It's obviously something wrong with the computer but I can't tell if it's software or hardware.. or neither.. thanks though!

As far, as I found out during 54 years of my life, most things break without any warning. I know, it sucks, but this is how it is.

Don't worry, we'll fix it. We just need to eliminate some possible culprits. That adapter is just a few bucks.

I know I used to have one for a mouse awhile ago.. but I don't know what came of it.. I looked for it and didn't find anything. I'm not sure it would work anyway..

Both ports are identical, so if you can find it....

I found it but it works the opposite way.. its for a USB to plug into the PS/2..
